Graphic Design Thinking

As part of the MICA Graphic Design MFA program we have the option of working on the book “Graphic Design Thinking: Tools for Defining Problems, Getting Ideas, and Creating Form”. It’s an amazing opportunity. Besides the fact we get to create fun design projects, we get to write, and now create covers for the book that will be edited by the program directors Ellen Lupton and Jennifer Cole Phillips. These are a few of the covers I created for today’s critique. Everyone submitted designs, I got the best reaction from the type/info design one above.

The next step for me is to create an iteration of this cover that gives the title more emphasis. You lose it too quickly in this version. There was some nice variety and ideas in everyone’s submissions…we’re all doing some small edits and then sending them over to the publisher for them to select their favorite next week.
