The biggest draw of doing my thesis research on keys is that besides being rich in visual variety, the literature, history and vocabulary surrounding keys are just as robust.
One of the more interesting things about Keys is that the word “key” references so many things. It can be a scale of music or what some punk kid did down the side of your car. It’s such a multifaceted term in our vocabulary. It boggles my mind to see all the different ways the word can be used in the English language—here are the car keys, find it in the map key, shoot it from the top of the key, play it in a higher key. It’s amazing that such a variety of meaning can come from 3 short letters.
