I discovered the Avett Brothers song titled I and Love and You, and besides thoroughly enjoying the beautiful song, I’ve been trying to find the time to do a design based on the title. It took my last day of winter break to kick me into gear, but here it is. I used a Baskerville Italic ampersand and sliced it into different parts and reconfigured them to create the letterforms. I am showing the overlaps within the forms because I wanted the letter shapes to be recognized as composite parts of the ampersand, but I find it a bit too sharp in a few areas. Once I get the design settled, I think this would look nice silkscreened. Maybe in time for Valentine’s Cards!
